Partners Salima Merani and Susan Natland Named Among “Top 250 Women in IP” Worldwide by MIP

Knobbe Martens is pleased to announce that Dr. Salima Merani and Susan Natland, partners in the firm’s Orange County office, have been recognized by Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) as two of the “Top 250 Women in IP” globally for 2019.

The special publicationhonors female practitioners in private practice who have done exceptional work for their clients and firms over the past year. Over the course of six months, research analysts gather recommendations and information from thousands of firms and their clients through interviews, surveys, and independent research to identify the elite group of honorees.

Dr. Merani, who was also named to the list in 2018, has nearly 20 years of experience in building strategic intellectual property portfolios for life sciences companies both in the United States and internationally. As lead IP counsel in numerous successful high stakes IP transactions, Dr. Merani counsels clients in medtech and biopharma, including aesthetics, orthopedics, cardiovascular, neurology, oncology, and ophthalmology. Her work outside the healthcare arena includes a deep knowledge in the fields of cosmetic formulations. Dr. Merani also has extensive experience conducting IP due diligence for investors, such as high profile venture capital firms. Over the last few years, she has served as lead IP counsel in deals valued at nearly $2 billion.

Ms. Natland is Co-Chair of the firm’s Trademark and Brand Protection Group and for more than 20 years has advised clients, ranging from start-ups to Fortune 10 companies in a wide variety of industries, on all aspects of domestic and international brand protection and enforcement. Her practice includes domestic and foreign trademark selection and clearance, trademark procurement and prosecution, ex parte and inter partes proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB), trademark audits, licensing, domain name disputes, counterfeit goods and customs, copyrights, entertainment law, rights of publicity, and trademark and copyright enforcement and litigation. A certified data privacy specialist and Chair of Knobbe Martens’ Data Privacy and Security Group, she also advises on an array of electronic commerce matters including data privacy and data security compliance and procedure, data breach response, online privacy, mobile privacy, advertising and promotions, and social media.
