Chambers & Partners Again Ranks Knobbe Martens as a Top California IP Firm

| Joseph R. Re

We’re pleased to announce that Knobbe Martens has again been ranked one of California’s top intellectual property firms for patent prosecution and life sciences in Chambers & Partners newly released 2019 “USA” guide. The firm has a Band 1 ranking for Patent Prosecution and has also been ranked for its Life Sciences practice.

Chambers praised the firm as a “highly respected IP boutique” that advises clients in IP portfolio management matters including patent prosecution proceedings and due diligence for corporate transactions; handles trade infringement and trade secrets misuse claims; and provides “experienced representation in post-grant reviews before the PTAB.”

Knobbe Martens clients interviewed by Chambers for this year’s guide reported that the firm and attorneys are “timely, excellent communicators and reliable legal advisers," “very conscientious and always incredibly accessible,” and “able to provide a variety of resources and knowledge within their network.”

Regarding its Life Science practice specifically, one client notes to Chambers that, "I've worked with partners at their major competitors and I have not felt as comfortable or cared for there as I have at Knobbe.” Another commented that the firm’s “technical strength is exceptional, in terms of understanding both technology and prior art and the technical rules of the PTAB. They won't be outlawyered."

In addition, litigation partner Joseph Re was individually ranked by Chambers in the patent category for being “well versed in an array of patent infringement and trade secret disputes” and “for his particular expertise in appellate matters.” A client remarked that Re “is fantastic; he has a great communication style and a great presence."

Re has more than three decades of experience handling high-stakes technology cases before federal court juries throughout the country. As lead counsel for Masimo, a long-time client and global leader in patient monitoring technology, he has enforced the company’s extensive patent portfolio and secured verdicts and settlements worth billions of dollars. His other clients include Smith & Nephew, Applied Medical, and Personal Genome Diagnostics to name a few.
