Attorney Neil M. McCarthy Joins Knobbe Martens’ Washington D.C. Office

Neil M. McCarthy has joined Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear LLP as a partner in the firm’s Washington DC office. He will focus his practice primarily on client counseling and litigation for the generic pharmaceutical industry.

Neil’s practice over the past 15 years has focused primarily on representing the generic pharmaceutical industry in patent matters related to their Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) filings. His clients have included the largest generic drug manufacturers in the world. He has assisted these companies in hundreds of matters involving new chemical entities, physical forms and synthesis, formulations and indications. He counsels on patent issues arising during all phases of the ANDA process, beginning with initial product selection, development of appropriate filing positions on "Orange-Book" listed patents and strategic counseling during ensuing litigation. In addition, Neil has been an integral member of litigation teams in numerous Hatch-Waxman cases.

“We are delighted to have Neil join us in the Washington D.C. office,” said William Zimmerman, managing partner of the office. “We anticipate that Neil’s tremendous experience in the industry and patent system will contribute to the growth of our generics practice, and expand capabilities we offer to our current generic pharmaceutical clients.”

Neil received a Bachelor of Science Engineering Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan. He then joined the Patent Office and served as an Examiner for 12 years. While working for the Patent Office he attended law school graduating summa cum laude from American University Washington College of Law.
