Overview
Intellectual property counselor Rosaleen Chou advises on brand protection and strategy. She represents a wide variety of domestic, multi-national and foreign-owned businesses across a broad array of industries. Her experience ranges from computer software and hardware, consumer electronics, social media, virtual reality, entertainment, fashion and apparel; to cosmetics, professional and college sports, advertising, food and beverage, wine and spirits; to financial services, telecommunications, energy, biotech, healthcare, engineering, and publishing.
With clients that include famous brands, large multi-national companies and smaller, fast-growth companies alike, Rosaleen pioneers trademarks that make markets — where the result of her counsel is frequently covered by the media. She has managed extensive global trademark portfolios across 200+ countries. She advises on domestic and international searches and prosecution, as well as devises trademark filing programs and strategies focused on protecting and strengthening client brands. Skilled at auditing and identifying key growth areas, Rosaleen designs IP portfolios that align with each client’s distinct commercial goals.
Notably, Rosaleen spearheads global policing and enforcement programs that protect her clients’ IP rights against infringement and dilution while furthering and safeguarding competitive advantage. This includes multi-country opposition and infringement actions, domain name disputes and UDRP proceedings, TTAB opposition and cancellation proceedings, copyright strategy, customs enforcement, and online marketplace and social media brand protection.
Having worked at Meta as a full-time secondee, Rosaleen managed and developed trademark and copyright portfolios for Facebook, Instagram, Oculus, and WhatsApp. She also developed brand guidelines and managed brand licensing of these properties. As a result, Rosaleen truly understands the challenges her clients face when running their businesses and knows how to work directly with her clients’ business contacts to make their lives easier.
Rosaleen is dedicated to keeping her finger on the pulse of what her clients need — exceeding their expectations at every turn. Appreciated for her seemingly innate ability to understand and relate to everyone with whom she works, Rosaleen has a flair for presenting complex topics in a way that is easily understood and makes sense from a business perspective.
In addition, Rosaleen has managed high-profile company rebranding projects and was invited on numerous occasions to present to the C-Suite and Board of Directors of her clients. A devout team player and client partner, Rosaleen seeks to minimize costs and maximize ROI while consistently providing personalized, attentive service and actionable legal solutions that parallel each client’s market position and agenda.
Rosaleen serves on the Board of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Silicon Valley (APABA-SV) and on INTA’s Anti-Counterfeiting Committee. She is also a Co-Chair of the Women In Law Committee of APABA-SV and serves on the firm’s Diversity Committee.
Prior to joining Knobbe Martens, Rosaleen practiced in the trademark and copyright group of an international Am Law 100 firm.
