Overview
Lance D. Smemoe, a Partner in our Orange County office, combines a robust technical acumen with a personable approach to intellectual property law. He is adept in managing global patent portfolios, obtaining international intellectual property rights, advising on intellectual property strategy, and performing due diligence. Lance lends his expertise to a range of industries including automotive, transportation, communications technology, electronics and semiconductors, financial services and business methods, medical devices, and software and IT.
Lance’s work on technologies such as software-driven therapy systems, diabetes management, battery technology, electric vehicles and powertrains, optical filters, telescopes, and internet of things devices, just to name a few, allows him to provide comprehensive and tailored advice to his clients. His interests in quantum optics, quantum computing, parallel computing, and wireless communications reveal his penchant for keeping abreast with cutting-edge technology.
Before working in his current position, Lance’s early career was marked by stints as a law clerk for an ICANN-approved domain name dispute resolution service provider and at other intellectual property law firms. He joined the firm in 2006 and became a partner in 2012.
Outside of the office, Lance is a voracious reader, a hobby that fuels his pursuit of knowledge and his understanding of the world. He also enjoys traveling and embracing new adventures with his wife and their four young children. This sense of curiosity and exploration informs his practice, helping him navigate complex legal terrains and uncover unique solutions.
