Ken Aruda is an associate in our Washington D.C. office. His practice focuses on intellectual property law, with an emphasis global patent portfolio management in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and material science fields. Ken works with clients in various technology areas to help them determine patentability, write applications for new inventions, pursue the appeals process at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and contest existing patents in his client’s interest.
Prior to joining Knobbe Martens, Ken worked as a Technical Specialist, and then as a Student Associate at a large Intellectual Property firm, where he prepared and reviewed technical documents, prepared opinions on patent validity, and drafted patent applications in areas including pharmaceuticals, photovoltaics, semiconductor fabrication, and software.
Ken completed a J.D. at Georgetown University Law Center, and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry at Northwestern University. While studying for his Ph.D, he also took business classes at Kellogg School of Management, which is when he decided to use his technical understanding to guide his clients through the patenting process.
