Partner Mauricio Uribe was quoted in The Wall Street Journal article “Hermès wins case against artist who sold NFTs of Birkin Bags.”
Uribe commented on the verdict of the high-profile trademark infringement case Hermès International v Rothschild, which resulted in the French luxury brand prevailing against the digital artist Rothschild, who had created non-fungible tokens (NFTs) named ‘MetaBirkins’ that resembled the shape of the fashion brand’s Birkin bag. Uribe commented that had Mr. Rothschild won, significant disruptions in [IP] law could have resulted. He said, “With the Hermès win, it seems this case will not end up making any changes to the IP doctrine.”
