IRVINE, Calif., January 26, 2026 – Knobbe Martens is pleased to share the latest edition of the firm’s Federal Circuit Year in Review report, covering over 50 of the most noteworthy patent-related Federal Circuit decisions issued in 2025.
Following on last year’s inaugural report, the 2025 Federal Circuit Year in Review provides in-depth analysis from Knobbe Martens lawyers on a wide range of impactful rulings, organized by more than a dozen categories including claim construction, infringement, patentable subject matter, and PTAB developments.
This year’s report contributors include Sheila Swaroop, Chair of Knobbe Martens’ Litigation group, and partners Irfan Lateef, Sean Murray, and Jeremiah Helm.
Commenting on the report, Ms. Swaroop said, “In publishing this report, our aim is to provide IP professionals, in-house counsel, and business leaders with an overarching view of the patent litigation landscape, so they can act with confidence in 2026.”
In the report’s executive summary, Mr. Murray and Mr. Helm provide an overview of the most significant—and unexpected—Federal Circuit rulings of 2025, including the court’s unexpected departure from USPTO guidance regarding inter partes reviews. “While the Federal Circuit issued a series of decisions that strengthened the hand of IPR petitioners, the Patent Office introduced new rules and policies that dramatically reduced the number of IPRs that were instituted compared to prior years,” they write.
