Overview
Sophia Zahn’s practice focuses on patent prosecution and global portfolio management, intellectual property due diligence and licensing, patent validity and infringement opinions, and counseling on intellectual property strategy and risk assessment. Sophia represents clients in a wide range of technologies, including chemicals, pharmaceuticals, polymers, material science, and medical devices.
Sophia has counseled clients on investments, acquisitions, and licensing. Sophia was part of the Knobbe Martens team that advised Acera Surgical in their acquisition by Solventum for up to $850 million.
During law school, Sophia served as Senior Editor on the Southern California Interdisciplinary Law Journal. Additionally, Sophia earned a graduate certificate in Regulatory and Clinical Affairs, with studies focused on the regulation of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and diagnostics, including regulatory pathways to approval and post-marketing requirements.
Sophia has a background in chemistry with an emphasis on organic and polymer chemistry. Her graduate research focused on synthesizing macrocyclic ligands linked to monomers, polymerizing those monomers, and forming organometallic complexes to obtain polymer-bound catalysts.
