Overview
Michael R. Christensen has over 17 years of experience helping start-up medtech companies position themselves for a successful exit, including being involved in deals valued at over a billion dollars in just the last few years. While he has helped clients protect a variety of technologies, Michael focuses his practice on building IP portfolios for medical device clients in the cardiovascular, ophthalmology, neuromodulation (including tissue ablation, denervation, and nerve stimulation), and spine fields, including medical implants and devices for the diagnosis or treatment of herniated discs, faulty heart valves, diabetes, stroke, vascular occlusions, glaucoma, and heart failure.
Michael also has extensive experience conducting patent due diligence for leading venture capital firms and other investors. He has also performed several IP audits to help companies identify ways to improve their patent portfolio. One of Michael’s areas of expertise is developing strategies for expediting patent prosecution both in the United States and abroad and he has presented on this topic at various industry conferences, workshops, and universities.
Michael is the Chair of the firm’s IP & Technology Transactions Group and is on the Steering Committee for the Leaders Forum HealthTech Showcase benefitting the American Diabetes Association. Michael is also the Chair-Elect for the Orange County Chapter of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society.
