Sheila Swaroop, Brian Horne and Joseph Re recognized for strength in intellectual property litigation
IRVINE, Calif., May 20, 2026 – Reflecting the firm’s strengths in high-stakes litigation, Knobbe Martens is proud to share that litigation partners Sheila Swaroop, Brian Horne, and Joseph Re were recognized in Daily Journal’s 2026 Top Intellectual Property Lawyers list. Each were honored for their decades-long careers representing clients in high-stakes intellectual property disputes involving complex technologies.
In her profile, Ms. Swaroop, chair of the firm’s Litigation practice, was noted for her role successfully defending Veros Credit and two of its employees in a trade-secret misappropriation case, among other high-profile successes in district court and the International Trade Commission. Discussing her decision to pursue a career in IP law, Ms. Swaroop emphasized the “importance of protecting and defending innovations,” and how a mix of technology and legal issues keeps her work interesting.
In a similar vein, Mr. Re shared how his career in patent law has enabled him to see how life-saving technologies are brought to the market, and how the most rewarding aspect of his career is “[g]etting to know some of the inspirational people behind the world’s greatest inventions.” In his profile, Mr. Re was noted for his leading roles in successful cases for innovative, groundbreaking companies, including victories for Masimo and a $381 million verdict in an antitrust case on behalf of Applied Medical.
Mr. Horne was honored for successes that included his role leading the trial team that secured a landmark patent infringement verdict on behalf of Masimo against Apple. He was also commended for a victory on behalf of Sigray, a family-founded x-ray technology company that was facing enormous financial and reputational damages in a patent infringement dispute. Speaking to that case, he remarked, “It’s not always about monetary wins. The wins that stay with you are where you truly help people.”
