The newly enacted American Invents Act (AIA) and its impact on med-tech and high-tech companies is the topic of an ‘IP Impact 2012’ seminar presented by Knobbe Martens, one of the country’s largest Intellectual Property (IP) law firms. This seminar will take place in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina on Thursday, October 25, and is designed for in-house counsel, C-level executives, venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, IP managers, and licensing executives; instructing attendees on important information their companies must know about the AIA and how to correctly implement the right IP strategy for their company.
On September 16, the first wave of rules under the AIA went into effect. The law switches U.S. rights to a patent from the present “first-to-invent” system to a “first inventor-to-file” system for patent applications filed on or after March 16, 2013. It is the most significant change to the U.S. patent system since 1952.
Janet Gongola, who oversees the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s implementation of the AIA, will be the keynote speaker. Knobbe Martens attorneys Bill Bunker, Rabi Narula, and Timothy Goodson will serve as panelists on additional IP topics. Bunker focuses on developing and executing worldwide patent and trademark protection strategies. A large portion of Narula’s practice is directed to strategic patent protection, for technologies such as medical devices, semiconductor fabrication, and measurement devices. Goodson has litigated patent disputes in a variety of technologies and represented clients in lawsuits involving trademarks, trade dress, and cybersquatting.
The seminar will take place at the Hilton Raleigh-Durham Airport at Research Triangle Park from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. A hosted breakfast will be served. For additional information and to RSVP, please contact Stephanie Vadas.
