IRVINE, Calif. January 3, 2023 – Knobbe Martens, among the country’s largest intellectual property and technology law firms, is pleased to announce that six lawyers have been elected to the partnership, effective January 1, 2023. The new partners possess an array of backgrounds and skills, and half hold advanced degrees in science and engineering fields.

The newly elected partners are:
Patent attorney Daniel Kamkar focuses on international patent prosecution and portfolio management, patent infringement and validity analyses, USPTO proceedings, and general IP licensing. Mr. Kamkar, who is based in the firm’s San Diego office, received his J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law, where he worked in the Entrepreneurial Law Clinic and the University of Washington’s Technology Transfer Office (CoMotion). Before attending law school, Mr. Kamkar earned his M.S. in materials chemistry from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he researched organic semiconducting materials used to form LED’s and solar cells using atomic force microscopy, photoluminescent spectroscopy, and ultrafast spectroscopic techniques.
Daniel Kiang, based in the firm’s Orange County office, represents clients in patent and trademark litigation matters, including before district courts, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, and the U.S. International Trade Commission. Mr. Kiang has extensive experience representing both petitioners and patent owners in AIA post-grant proceedings, such as inter partes reviews, before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. Mr. Kiang earned his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law in 2015, where he was a founding member of the Intellectual Property Law Association and a member of the UCLA Moot Court Honors Program. Prior to law school, Mr. Kiang earned his bachelor’s degrees in physics and applied mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley. Mr. Kiang has research experience at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab.
Jacob Rosenbaum assists clients in all aspects of brand protection and trademark and copyright litigation and enforcement. Based in the firm’s Orange County office, Jacob has extensive experience enforcing and defending trademark and trade dress rights in U.S. District Court and before the Trademark Trial and Appeals Board, and has represented clients in all stages of U.S. litigation, including pre-litigation counseling, discovery, motion practice, trial, appeal, mediation and settlement. Jacob graduated from Boston University, cum laude, with a B.A. in English. He received his J.D. from the University of California, Davis School of Law. Jacob joined the firm in 2016.
Albert Sueiras’s practice includes utility and design patent portfolio management in domestic and international jurisdictions, along with competitive landscape analysis, opinion work, and intellectual property due diligence. Albert represents clients in a wide range of technologies, with an emphasis on medical devices and procedures. In the medical device field, Albert has worked extensively with vascular access and thrombus management devices, critical care devices, infusion technologies, neural-auditory stimulation, and topical wound therapy. Albert also assists in providing resources for start-up medical device companies as an editor and routine author on the firm’s KnobbeMedical blog.
Litigator Douglas Wentzel, based in the firm’s Orange County office, represents clients in district courts across the country and before the International Trade Commission and Patent Trial and Appeal Board. Doug’s cases have covered a broad spectrum of technologies including wearable physiological monitoring devices, transcatheter heart valve repair devices, respiratory therapy products, digital cinema cameras, automotive shock absorbers, microdermabrasion systems, and more. Before joining the firm, Doug received his B.S. in Civil Engineering, summa cum laude, from Drexel University. He received his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he founded a cross-disciplinary program to counsel Penn engineering students regarding IP considerations for their hypothetical start-up businesses.
Jamie Youngblood is a patent litigator with experience preparing petitions to the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). Based in the firm’s Orange County office, Mr. Youngblood has litigated cases across a range of technologies in the computer hardware, consumer electronics, and medical device fields. Mr. Youngblood received his B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Florida. Before law school, Mr. Youngblood amassed nearly a decade of engineering experience, including seven years at Intel Corporation as a Senior Design Engineer. He received his J.D. from The University of Chicago Law School.
