Ned Israelsen, Irfan Lateef, Sabing Lee, Joseph Re and Gerard von Hoffmann, partners of Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear LLP, have been recognized by the Daily Journal among the 100 leading intellectual property (IP) attorneys in California for 2011.
The fourth annual Top Intellectual Property Lawyers list showcases the leading intellectual property attorneys based in California. The editors choose the top 100 lawyers from hundreds of nominations based on the impact of the lawyer’s work and how it has affected an industry or society.
Joseph Re and Irfan Lateef are included in the 75 Leading Intellectual Property Litigators list. Re, who has extensive experience in both trial and appellate work, was recognized for his defense of Smith & Nephew, a worldwide healthcare leader, against allegations of infringement of numerous patents related to negative pressure wound therapy. Lateef was recognized for his extraordinary representation of Toshiba Corp., a pioneer in notebook computer technology.
Ned Israelsen, Sabing Lee and Gerard von Hoffmann are included in the 25 Leading Portfolio Managers and Patent Prosecutors list. Israelsen, managing partner of the firm’s San Diego office, was recognized for his patent strategy and advising clients in the biotech, pharmaceutical and diagnostic sectors. Israelsen’s clients range from large companies to startups and venture capital firms. Lee was recognized for his patent work focusing on medical device and startup companies. He is currently working on portfolio management for several clients, helping them structure patents and develop products that effectively protect their technology while minimizing the risk of infringing competitor IP. Von Hoffmann is recognized for his patent strategy practice for early-stage companies and IP due diligence for investors in medical device firms. He has sat on the Board of Directors of a number of early stage medical device companies, giving him a perspective that extends beyond the category of intellectual property.
