IRVINE, Calif., October 14, 2024 – Knobbe Martens is pleased to share that partner Brian Claassen has been recognized as a 2024 Top Trade Secrets Lawyer by Daily Journal.
In Mr. Claassen’s profile, the publication highlighted his extensive experience in litigation matters in federal courts across the country, before the International Trade Commission, and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
The profile also detailed his work on behalf of health technology companies Masimo and Cercacor Laboratories in multiple trade secret litigation matters. Among these is a case pending in California, Masimo Corp et a. v. Apple, Inc., where Masimo and Cercacor are seeking to stop Apple from using Masmo’s trade secrets in the Apple Watch. Commenting on that case, Mr. Claassen said, “Masimo and Cercacor allege that Apple acquired trade secrets concerning its Apple Watch from Cercacor’s former chief technical officer. Given the high-profile nature of the case, the outcome is likely to carry significance in California trade secrets and employee mobility law.”
Mr. Claassen discussed his journey to an intellectual property law career, which began when he sparked an interest in IP as an electrical engineer working on consumer electronics. “I became so interested in the topic that I decided to go back to school,” he said. “Now, I get the opportunity to passionately advocate for people I directly relate to based on that experience.”
