Overview
Established companies, start-ups, and individual inventors rely on Vikas Bhargava to protect their innovations in the electrical and software fields. Vikas’s practice focuses on developing patent portfolios, navigating difficult subject matter eligibility issues with software inventions, and performing non-infringement and invalidity analyses to mitigate risk.
Vikas has a breadth of experience that spans various technical domains, including artificial intelligence/machine learning, user interfaces, cloud computing, speech/voice recognition, data security, distributed ledger technologies (including blockchain and smart contracts), wireless communication systems, analog and digital electronics, and aerospace hardware and software technologies. He has leveraged this expertise in a cross-disciplinary manner to advise clients and develop national and international patent protection strategies in the electrical, software, aerospace, medical device, mechanical, and chemical industries.
Prior to joining the firm, Vikas worked as a hardware design engineer at a Silicon Valley-based start-up and as a technical specialist at a boutique IP law firm in Washington, D.C.
Vikas Bhargava represents clients in a variety of intellectual property matters, including patent prosecution in the computer, software, and electronic fields, patent and trademark licensing, due diligence, and trademark prosecution.
Vikas counsels clients engaged in a wide variety of technologies, including the following:

During law school, Vikas served as Executive Editor of the Southern California Law Review and worked as a clinical intern for the USC Intellectual Property & Technology Law Clinic, where he assisted in patent and copyright matters for individuals, non-profits, and government agencies. Before entering law school, he worked as a technical specialist at Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox PLLC and as a hardware design engineer at UC Berkeley.
Vikas worked as a summer associate with the firm in 2010 and joined the firm in 2011.
