In Managing IP Article, Dr. David Schmidt Discusses How Knobbe Martens is Helping Clients Navigate the UPC

In the Managing IP article “Strengthening Ties: How US Firms Are Responding to the UPC,” partner Dr. David Schmidt shared how the firm is helping clients understand and adapt to the European Union’s Unified Patent Court (UPC) on the one year anniversary of its establishment.

Among other topics, Dr. Schmidt spoke about Knobbe Martens’ longstanding relationships with European firms and how the UPC has strengthened those ties.  Speaking on clients’ most asked questions when deciding whether to take their matters to the UPC, he said, “The risk there is that the UPC is so new. We're a little bit unsure as to how the court is going to interpret claims and calculate damages. These are all conversations that we're having right now with our clients."
