Re led a Knobbe Martens trial team to one of the most significant intellectual property victories of 2014: achieving a $466 million jury verdict in Delaware federal court for longstanding client Masimo against Philips Electronics North Corp. and Philips Medizin Systeme Boblingen GmbH after after a jury found the companies liable for infringing two patents covering Masimo’s revolutionary pulse oximetry technology. The verdict was the largest intellectual property verdict of 2014 and ranked fifth among all cases in The National Law Journal’s “Top 100 verdicts of 2014.”
In its “Winning Litigators” profile of Re, The National Law Journal highlighted his expert ability to streamline patent cases and to prepare for the 24 hours of allotted trial time in the Masimo case, in particular, by crafting “a fast-moving chronology with testimony that made his points and then moved on.” Masimo Chairman and CEO Joe Kiani told the publication that Re’s integrity and storytelling skills play well in the courtroom, and that he “is great at telling things in a way that’s complete and interesting and yet succinct.”
Re was previously named an “MVP of the Year – Intellectual Property” by Law360, which recognized his skillful work in Masimo.
