Catherine Holland, partner in Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear’s Orange County office, was awarded the Volunteer Service Award by the International Trademark Association (INTA) at its November 2008 Leadership Meeting in Boca Raton. The award is in recognition of Catherine’s outstanding achievements in advancing INTA’s committee objectives. Catherine sponsored legislation in California to implement the Model State Trademark Bill (MSTB). The legislation passed within one year of introduction; a remarkable accomplishment for significant legislation in the state of California. Catherine worked closely with state legislators and their staff, obtained the support of corporations through letters, calls, emails and faxes, and persuaded disparate organizations to come together and support the bill. The MSTB was signed into law on October 14, 2007, and became effective January 1, 2008.
California is the first state to pass the MSTB with the new federal dilution standards.
The International Trademark Association (INTA) is a not-for-profit membership association dedicated to supporting the advancement of trademarks and related intellectual property as elements of fair and effective national and international commerce.
