The designation is a result of a recent survey conducted by The Daily Transcript in which San Diego County lawyers were asked to nominate and vote on peers who they felt are worthy of the recognition based on professional experience.
Fred Berretta was recognized for his work in intellectual property litigation. He primarily handles patent infringement cases in a wide variety of technology areas including medical devices, electronics and communications, software, semiconductors and mechanical devices. He recently obtained a favorable decision from the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit for LMA North America, Inc., located in San Diego, in a patent case involving laryngeal masks used to anesthetize patients during surgery.
Ned Israelsen, managing partner of the firm’s San Diego office, was recognized for his transactional intellectual property work. His clients range from startup companies to established businesses in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical industries. Israelsen focuses on advising clients in the areas of worldwide patent protection strategies, avoidance of third party intellectual property, portfolio building, due diligence, intellectual property opinions and licensing. He is also a past treasurer and active member of the San Diego branch of Tech Coast Angels, the nation’s largest angel investing network.
Marc Morley was recognized for his transactional intellectual property work. Morley’s practice includes developing intellectual property portfolios and intellectual property strategies for various clients in multiple technology areas that have resulted in millions of dollars of investment, licensing and acquisitions. Additionally, he has been an adjunct professor teaching patent law at the University of San Diego School of Law since 2006 and also has taught a course on biotechnology and pharmaceutical patent law at the University of California San Diego Extension since 2007.
Boris Zelkind was recognized for his work in intellectual property litigation. He has worked on a variety of significant patent infringement, trademark infringement and trade secret misappropriation cases. He represents clients in federal courts throughout the United States and in European patent infringement proceedings and nullity actions. Zelkind has represented the 99¢ Only Stores® for nearly a decade, enforcing the company’s family of trademarks against knock-off and copycat stores. He also represents SunPower Corporation and Kimberly-Clark’s healthcare business in intellectual property litigation matters. Zelkind has been teaching Patent Law at the University of California San Diego Extension since the fall of 2007.
