Knobbe Martens, Partners Again Recognized for Outstanding IP Work in Chambers 2022 Guide

Knobbe Martens is pleased to announce that Chambers and Partners has again recognized the firm and a number of its partners for top-tier intellectual property work in the publication’s prestigious 2022 Chambers USA guide.

In the competitive California market, for the 5th consecutive year, the firm ranked Band 1 – the highest possible – for Patent Prosecution. The firm was also recognized in California for Patent Litigation, Life Sciences, and Trademark, Copyright & Trade Secrets, and was ranked in Intellectual Property in Washington State.

In addition to firmwide rankings, the 2022 Chambers guide singled out three Knobbe partners for being standouts in the market:

Maria Anderson, widely recognized by a suite of national and international outlets as a leading IP lawyer, was ranked for Intellectual Property in Washington State. Anderson, who was praised by Chambers as “a fantastic lawyer,” is well-known for successfully counseling clients in all aspects of patent and trademark issues. With nearly three decades of experience, she is particularly adept in the procurement of patent assets in the computer science and ecommerce fields.

Salima Merani, Ph.D, lauded by the annual guide as “phenomenal” and “simply out of this world,” was recognized in both Patent Prosecution and Life Sciences IP/Patent Litigation in California. Dr. Merani co-chairs the firm’s Medical Device Group and has over two decades of experience in building patent portfolios for life sciences companies and conducting diligence for venture capital firms, including serving as lead IP counsel in deals valued at over $3 billion dollars over recent years. She is an Advisory Board Member with Vensana Capital, a leading venture capital firm dedicated to breakthrough medical technology innovations. In its profile, Chambers noted that Dr. Merani has “great instincts, is a great thinker and has a wonderful manner.”

Joseph Re, a nationally recognized trial and appellate attorney and “Icon of IP”, ranked again in California for Patent Litigation. Chambers described Re, who has been ranked in the guide for 16 years, as a “commanding courtroom presence” whose “ability to communicate complicated technical matters in an understandable way is unrivaled." Re's trial success before juries has been extraordinary. For decades, he has led Knobbe Martens trial teams in achieving numerous successes, including for the firm’s longstanding client Masimo in its protection of its ground-breaking patient-monitoring technology. Re also served from 2020 – 2021 as President of the American Intellectual Property Law Association.

The annual guide, which ranks the country’s top firms and attorneys across all practices, is compiled from in-depth market analysis and comprehensive independent research conducted over the course of several months by a team of experienced analysts. The process includes interviewing thousands of peers, clients and industry experts to gather insight into law firms and individual attorneys.
