Knobbe Martens is pleased to announce that the firm’s D.C. office has once again teamed up with AIPLA, Finnegan, and Maryland-based nonprofit Comfort Cases® to give back to the local community as part of the AIPLA Women in IP Community Service Event.

A month-long donation drive collected 1189 items for children entering foster care. The donated items included 726 backpacks, 218 pairs of pajamas, 196 books, and 49 stuffed animals. These items will be distributed to children entering foster care to provide a sense of dignity and comfort during a challenging time. The donated items were delivered directly to the Comfort Cases’ headquarters to be packed with first night essentials and then distributed nationwide. Knobbe Martens was excited for the opportunity to transition to a virtual format for this year’s donation drive and community service event. Women in the IP community in the greater D.C. area joined a virtual gathering on Wednesday, November 18th to learn more about Comfort Cases® and decorate bookmarks with uplifting messages for children entering foster care.

“Knobbe is so pleased to be partnering with AIPLA, Finnegan, and Comfort Cases again on this important and meaningful project, particularly in light of the strain the pandemic has undoubtedly put on the foster care system and the lives of the children within it,” said partner Devanie DuFour, alongside partner Andrea Cheek, and associate Cassie Gourash, who are spearheading the event for Knobbe Martens.

“Last year’s event was a great success, and this year we are excited to provide an opportunity for women in IP in the greater D.C. area to gather safely, in a virtual setting, to continue building relationships and serving our local community,” added Gourash, a member of the AIPLA Women in IP Law committee.

Last November, women in IP in the greater D.C. area came together to pack more than 1,500 donated items into 100 assembled Comfort Cases for children between the ages of three and nine entering foster care. The 1189 comfort items collected in this year’s donation drive will help Comfort Cases® continue their critical mission. Since the founding of Comfort Cases® in 2013, more than 75,000 assembled Comfort Cases have been distributed to children entering foster care nationwide.
