Knobbe Martens’ D.C. office kicked off the holiday season this year by giving back to the local community as part of the AIPLA Women in IP Community Service Event. On November 20, the firm partnered with Finnegan to host an event at which nearly 40 volunteers filled backpacks for children new to the foster care system. The backpacks will be distributed by the Rockville, Maryland-based nonprofit organization Comfort Cases®, which has served more than 80,000 children nationwide since its founding in 2013.

“Knobbe was thrilled to have the opportunity to bring together the AIPLA Women in IP community to benefit Comfort Cases and raise awareness of the organization’s mission to bring comfort and dignity to children entering foster care,” said associate Cassie Gourash. Cassie helped organize the event as a member of the AIPLA Women in IP Law committee, alongside Partner Andrea Cheek and Associate Devanie DuFour.

In the months leading up to the event, Knobbe Martens raised money and distributed a Wish List, resulting in an overall donation of over 1,500 essential and comfort items including pajamas, stuffed animals, coloring books, and toiletries. The event participants then used these items to fill 100 backpacks for children between the ages of three and nine.

The AIPLA Women in IP Community Service Event comprises a number of local community service activities hosted by law firms, corporations and universities throughout the country during the months of November and December. The events provide an opportunity for women in IP to build relationships while engaging with their local community to help those in need.
