Joseph Re, a litigation partner at Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear LLP, has been selected as one of the Top 25 lawyers in Lawdragon’s 500 Leading Lawyers in America 2014-2015 list.
Re is a nationally recognized trial and appellate attorney known for handling high-stakes patent cases throughout the country for both patent holders and accused infringers. Re sits on the Federal Circuit’s Advisory Council, and has earned victories as the leading lawyer in several significant trials and appeals this past year. Most recently, Re led a Knobbe Martens team to achieve a complete victory for longstanding client Masimo in obtaining a verdict of more than $466 million against two Philips defendants. Additionally, the jury rejected Philips’s infringement claims for $169 million. This is the second nine-figure damages award for Masimo, which the firm has represented in high-stakes patent litigation since 1999.
Re’s other notable achievements in 2014 include a victory in March on behalf of Applied Medical Resources, Corp. in an inventorship dispute filed by Covidien Plc and Gaya Ltd. In July, the Central District Court of California ruled in Applied’s favor on all of the inventorship and ownership claims, holding that no individuals associated with Gaya are inventors on any of the five Applied patents at issue.
