Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear LLP partner John M. Carson was elected to the Steering Committee of the U.S. Group of International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI). His election was at the annual meeting held in Washington, D.C. last October and he will serve a two-year term. Last year AIPPI-US merged with the American international Property Law Association (AIPLA) and became a Division of that association whereupon the Steering Committee was tasked with managing the Division’s operations.
Mr. Carson, also a founder and chairman of the Asia Pacific Committee (APC), led the committee’s first ever delegation to visit its counterpart AIPPI National Groups in Japan, Korea and China. This trip was the first ever such event by AIPPI-US. Delegates gave speeches on various U.S. IP topics including Developments in Chemical and Biotechnology Law, Standard Essential Patents and the ITC, Selected Issues in Post-Grant Trails, Global Patent Litigation Statistics and Forum Shopping and Recent Trends Regarding Patent Litigations Involving Non-Practicing Entities. The AIPPI-US APC strives to cultivate bilateral relationships with the Asia Pacific legal community by collaborating with their regional AIPPI peers in the Asia Pacific region (initially focusing on the development of relationships with Korea, China and Japan) and educate AIPPI members in each jurisdiction on the laws, legal practices and trends of the U.S. The APC also coordinates member delegations to travel to sister countries for seminars and meetings and hosts visits by sister association delegations.
