Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear LLP, one of the nation’s leading intellectual property law firms, is delighted to announce that the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) will honor founding partner Don W. Martens with its Masters Division’s Legends of the Law Award tonight, Thursday August 27, at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach.
The OCBA presents the distinction to attorneys and judges whose excellence through significant contributions, highest ethics and exemplary professionalism advance the practice of law and its standing in Orange County. This event marks the second time the OCBA has recognized Mr. Martens. In 1987, the bar acknowledged him with its highest honor, the Franklin G. West Award for lifetime achievement dedicated to justice and the law.
The Masters Division’s award highlights a career during which Mr. Martens (who retired from the partnership in 2004 and who still serves of counsel as an arbitrator and special master) earned a number of the most prestigious awards in his field. His achievements include being named one of “The Top 10 Patent Lawyers in the World” by PLC Global Counsel Magazine; one of two U.S. “Leading IP Lawyers” by the Global Counsel’s Handbook; and one of “The 100 Most Influential Attorneys in California” by California Law Business. He received the American Intellectual Property Law Association’s Excellence Award for his efforts to improve the legal process and promote the rights of inventors.
The OCBA Masters Division, founded in 2011 to serve the unique abilities, needs, and agenda of practitioners with at least 25 years of legal practice, provides opportunities for the bar’s most knowledgeable and experienced members to present educational programs, engage in one-on-one mentoring of younger lawyers and uphold the honor and dignity of the legal profession.
