The designation is a result of a recent survey conducted by The Daily Transcript in which San Diego County lawyers were asked to nominate peers who they felt are worthy of the recognition based on professional experience.
John Carson was recognized for his transactional intellectual property work. His practice involves representing clients in the acquisition, protection and exploitation of IP rights, and particularly, patent portfolio management that maximizes value in complex IP environments. John recently represented patent owners in concurrent reexamination and litigation proceedings that resulted in a $260M license settlement. He negotiated a cross-license to a worldwide patent portfolio and conducted pre-filing due diligence for bringing an infringement suit with 11 selected patents, and he developed a monetization strategy relating to asset sales in a 900+ patent portfolio.
Ned Israelsen, who is managing partner in the firm’s San Diego office, was recognized for his transactional intellectual property work. His clients range from startup companies to established businesses in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical industries. He recently served as lead IP counsel for Alios BioPharma in licensing two drugs to Vertex in a deal valued at up to $1.5 billion. Ned focuses on advising clients in the areas of worldwide patent protection strategies, avoidance of third party intellectual property, portfolio building, due diligence, intellectual property opinions and licensing.
Boris Zelkind was recognized for his work in intellectual property litigation. He has worked on a variety of significant patent infringement, trademark infringement and trade secret misappropriation cases. His litigation has involved technologies ranging from data communications to medical devices, and he has implemented aggressive trademark enforcement strategies. In a notable decision, after a month long trial, he obtaining a jury verdict in favor of I-Flow Corp., a Kimberly Clark subsidiary, in a patent infringement and trade secret misappropriation case involving I-Flow’s drug delivery infusion pump technology.
