IRVINE, Calif. July 11, 2023 – Knobbe Martens is pleased to announce Euromoney Legal Media Group (LMG) selected partner Salima Merani, Ph.D. as the recipient of the “Life Sciences Lawyer of the Year” award at the 2023 Americas Women in Business Law Awards Gala.
The annual awards aim to recognize leading women practitioners from over 30 key practice areas for their contributions to the practice of business law. Dr. Merani was among four Knobbe Martens lawyers shortlisted for awards across various categories at the event: partners Christy Lea and Susan Natland were shortlisted for Patent Lawyer of the Year and Trademark Lawyer of the Year, respectively, while associate Kate McMorrow was shortlisted for Rising Stars in IP.
Dr. Merani, co-chair of the firm’s medical device practice, has 23 years of experience representing life sciences companies, investors, and venture capital firms. She has been the lead IP lawyer in successful acquisitions and transactions worth several billion dollars. She has received multiple awards and has been honored in both national and international forums for her legal accomplishments, including several this year alone. In June, she was named to The Legal 500 “Hall of Fame” and recognized in the 2023 Edition of Chambers USA as a distinguished leader. LMG has previously named her a “Patent Strategy Attorney of the Year” at their “Life Sciences Awards” and a “Life Science Star” in their guide. She was also recognized as one of the “Top 250 Women in IP” globally by Managing Intellectual Property (MIP), for the 6th consecutive year. Dr. Merani is a graduate of McGill University and The University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. She serves on several leadership committees and has a deep commitment to mentoring and training junior attorneys. She is also an Advisory Board Member with Vensana Capital, a prominent medtech venture firm.
