| Arash Pia

GE HealthCare on July 25th, 2024, announced a collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to develop purpose-built foundation models and generative artificial intelligence (AI) applications. According to the GE HealthCare press release, the company intends to utilize Amazon Bedrock to amplify the advantages of generative AI for their customers and build its own proprietary generative AI applications for healthcare use cases.

Furthermore, GE HealthCare’s internal developers are planning to use Amazon Q Developer to accelerate software development by generating real-time code suggestions, securely completing tasks, and more.

This collaboration follows a GE HealthCare announcement earlier this month to acquire an AI company.  GE HealthCare announced an agreement with Welsh company Intelligent Ultrasound to acquire the company’s clinical AI driven software business.  Intelligent Ultrasound provides products that train clinicians in the classroom and support them in the clinic with real-time AI image analysis software.

The sale and purchase agreement does not include Intelligent Ultrasound’s NeedleTrainer and NeedleTrainer Plus products, which will remain with the Company, along with the Simulation Business. The deal is reportedly on a cash free/debt free basis worth about $51 million.
