Discussing the Trademark Office’s commitment to reducing its application examination backlog, Azema noted that the recent decrease in first action pendency can help inform foreign filing strategies for U.S. applicants.
Further, Azema added, new brands can especially benefit from decreased pendency at the beginning of the trademark prosecution process. If any issues arise with a new brand’s initial filing, a quicker first action from the Trademark Office allows time to re-evaluate prosecution strategy, she maintained.
