IRVINE, Calif., September 30, 2025 – Knobbe Martens is pleased to announce that the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) has named partner Ed Schlatter as the recipient of the 2025 “Harmon G. Scoville Award”.
The “Harmon G. Scoville Award” is presented annually to a member of the Orange County legal community “whose career exemplifies the highest standards of the legal profession, who is widely known as a champion of the constitutional system of justice, and who has made significant contributions to the OCBA and its community.” The award will be presented to Mr. Schlatter at a reception on November 18, 2025.
For over 15 years, Mr. Schlatter held a variety of leadership roles within the OCBA and broader legal community. In this regard, Mr. Schlatter served on the board of directors for the OCBA and Orange County Bar Foundation (which is currently operating under the name Project Youth OCBF). Mr. Schlatter also previously co-chaired the OCBA’s Administration of Justice Committee.
As a delegate and officer for the OCBA Delegation to the California State Bar Conference of Delegates, Mr. Schlatter helped propose annual changes to California law and legal procedures. He later served as Chair of the Conference of California Bar Associations, as well as serving as a member of the board and other officer positions with the organization.
Mr. Schlatter is the second Knobbe Martens partner to receive the Scoville Award, following partner John Sganga, who received the award in 2021 and later retired from the firm.
Mr. Schlatter has spent the entirety of his 40-year legal career at Knobbe Martens, based in the firm’s Orange County office. He advises on developing and executing worldwide patent and trademark protection strategies for emerging companies and major multi-national corporations and popular brands. In addition to receiving this award, he has been recognized for his excellent intellectual property work by Legal 500, ALM, and Super Lawyers, among others.
