The IAM Patent 1000, from the publishers of Intellectual Asset Magazine (IAM), is a unique guide that identifies the top patent practitioners and firms in 40 countries around the globe. The IAM Patent 1000 consolidates the IAM Patent Litigation 250 and IAM Licensing 250, and includes top litigators, licensing advisors and patent prosecutors.

Knobbe Martens was one of just four firms recognized in all three categories (prosecution, litigation and licensing) in California. The firm was also recognized for its strong patent prosecution work in the United States.

As one of the largest patent firms in the United States, Knobbe Martens was extensively recognized for its excellent understanding of the US Patent and Trademark Office’s processes and for its cutting edge work on the new America Invents Act. As one interviewee said, “Knobbe Martens does an excellent job keeping clients informed of upcoming opportunities, and the advice received enables appropriate adjustments in strategy to be made. Its ability to adapt is remarkable.”

Twelve partners in the firm were recognized for their prosecution, licensing and litigation practices. Maria Anderson was described as a major asset for her clients and was commended for her ability to manage complex tasks to ensure the best work product. Mark Benedict and Daniel Hart were both described as “go-to” patent practitioners. Jon Gurka, possessing a strong electrical engineering background, was highly recommended for his considerable knowledge of the area. John King was recognized for his ability to develop patent portfolios for both start-ups and household-name technology companies. Irfan Lateef was acknowledged for his comfort working with high-stakes cases in the realm of telecommunications, electronics, semiconductors, software and hardware. Salima Merani was recognized for her meticulous work conducting patent due diligence for venture capital entities. Joseph Re was described as bright, articulate and well rounded, and “great at putting things together in a way that juries can understand.” Arthur Rose was recognized as a key leader in licensing circles and as a trusted business advisor who fosters close relationships with his clients. Ronald Schoenbaum was commended for his extreme diligence when it comes to IT and medical device patent work. Mauricio Uribe was recognized as having one of the strongest licensing backgrounds on the market, with a gift for analyzing and understanding complex technical material. William Zimmerman was described as a creative lawyer who is both “technically savvy and tenacious”.

The IAM Patent 1000 rankings are based on five-months of extensive research and nearly 1,000 telephone interviews with attorneys at law, patent attorneys and in-house counsel to identify individuals recognized by market sources for their exceptional skill sets and profound insights. The IAM Patent 1000 also identifies the leading law firms in the market based on the depth of expertise, market presence and the level of work on which they are typically engaged.
