The Daily Journal Names Knobbe Martens a Top IP Boutique Law Firm

Knobbe Martens is proud to announce it has been named a "2018 Top Boutique Law Firm” in California by editors of the Daily Journal. The firm is one of just 20 selected for the leading legal publication’s annual report. Knobbe Martens was recognized for providing outstanding intellectual property legal services since 1962.
In the profile of the firm published in the October 24 “Top Boutiques” supplement, Litigation Chair Joseph Cianfrani described how ninety-five percent of partners hold scientific degrees in addition to a law degree. He also explained how the firm’s growth has been fueled by extensively training and investing in new associates with the expectation that each will become a contributing partner to the firm.
“Our number one focus is doing quality work for our clients,” Cianfrani said. “The firm’s culture revolves around maintaining collegiality. We collaborate on cases in ways I haven’t seen elsewhere. We don’t worry about who gets the credit for what client – removing those barriers results in our giving better service.”

The editors featured Knobbe Martens’ 2017 trade secrets case victory where a Federal Circuit panel unanimously awarded a $112 million win for Edwards Lifesciences’ CardiAQ. As lead trial counsel for CardiAQ, Partner John Sganga emphasized that the case was a strong example of the firm working with clients since their inception.

“We have a lot of clients we’re working with from the time they’re startups developing technology and brands,” said Sganga. “Then as they mature and get into the marketplace, we handle the contested matters for them. We can cover the soup to nuts on whatever the issues are.”

Sganga also distinguished the firm from others for working with its clients in various ways other than prosecution and litigation, noting that the firm prides itself on being adaptable to all kinds of services and strategies.
Knobbe Martens' range of clients includes Edwards Lifesciences Corp., Spectrum Brands Inc. and HTC America Inc., all of whom benefit from the firm's unique approach and work style.
