Knobbe Martens Partners Named to Benchmark Litigation “Under 40 Hot List”

Congratulations to Partners Jared Bunker and Jonathan Bachand for being named leading litigation attorneys in Benchmark Litigation’s 2018 “Under 40 Hot List”.

Benchmark Litigation exclusively recognizes notable up-and-coming litigation attorneys under 40 years of age in the U.S., who at the partner level, have had a hand in the firm’s most recent significant cases and won praise from clients and peers for the exceptional quality of their work.

Jared Bunker, was recognized for his IP litigation work this past year where he successfully obtained a favorable settlement for his medical device client in a California federal district court. In a second district court case and corresponding IPR matter for a medical diagnostic company, Jared also achieved successful results – the PTAB rejected institution on two asserted claims and affirmed the patentability of three other asserted claims. For these two matters, Jared had primary responsibility for the briefs, depositions and motions. As a member of the Federal Circuit Bar Association’s PTO Pro Bono Program and Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program, Jared has undertaken several pro bono cases. A recent one involved preparing and filing an appeal brief to the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims for a former active duty Marine and Air Force reservist who was denied certain benefit increases by the Veterans Administration.

Jonathan Bachand is partner in the Washington, D.C. office and was honored for his work in IP litigation representing pharmaceutical and medical device companies. He obtained a favorable and case dispositive ruling on Summary Judgment representing Lupin in a patent infringement action in the District of Maryland on patents relating to meloxicam (the active ingredient in Iroko’s Vivlodex® product.) He also helped successfully defend Fisher & Paykel Healthcare in an action before the International Trade Commission related to patient interfaces for sleep apnea therapy where the patentee unilaterally withdrew its complaint and terminated the investigation. Jon is a member of the firm’s pro bono committee and organizes Knobbe’s representation of American Service Veterans before the Court of Appeals of Veterans Claims. Jon has represented companies in all phases of the district court litigation and in 337 investigations before the International Trade Commission. He also represents both patent owners and petitioners before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) in inter partes review proceedings involving pharmaceuticals, life sciences, and chemical processing patents.
