Christy Lea Recognized as a “Woman to Watch” by the AIPLA Women in IP Committee

| Christy Lea

Christy Lea, a partner in the Orange County office, has been chosen as a “Woman to Watch” by the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) Women in IP Committee. The committee seeks to honor women within the AIPLA who have created their own career paths, who lead through strong examples, and who are achieving successes as a result of their leadership. The “Women to Watch” series is published four times a year on each of the Women in IP Committee’s social media sites, as well as the Women in IP blog.

Christy was recognized for her professional accomplishments, participation as a founding member of the Knobbe Martens Pro Bono Committee, leadership in diversity and the empowerment of women. She primarily handles high-stakes patent cases at both the trial and appellate levels and has represented clients in the medical device and pharmaceutical industries for over 15 years. Recently, Christy co-led a trial team that convinced a federal jury in Boston to award Knobbe Martens client Edwards Lifesciences CardiAQ $70 Million for trade secret misappropriation against Neovasc. Christy serves as lead and co-lead counsel for numerous other clients including Smith & Nephew.

As a member of the AIPLA Women in IP Law Committee, Christy has been regularly involved in hosting and organizing the AIPLA Women in IP Law dinner each year. Her success in advocating for increased maternity benefits at the firm as former chair of Knobbe Martens’ Diversity Committee, as well as her long-term participation with AIPLA, embodies the goals of the Women in IP Committee.
