Description

The Orange County Chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) will host their bi-monthly evening program series on Wednesday, September 14, at The Cove at UCI Applied Innovation.

The presentation will be delivered by Knobbe Martens Partner John King, and is directed to the five things every software developer should know about intellectual property. It is well known that strategic use of patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and copyrights can help a business, but there are a variety of pitfalls that can reduce the scope of protection. Thus, this presentation will focus on (1) how to properly outsource work to contractors, (2) how to protect computer software inventions in light of recent legal changes, (3) the pros and cons of Open Source software, (4) how to copyright code, and (5) how to protect trade secrets.
