Description

Knobbe Martens Partner Ron Schoenbaum will be speaking at OCTANe's Technology Investor Forum on Thursday, May 22 (10:15 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.) on the topic of "Big Data."

The amount of data collected in a single day today – about 2,500 petabytes (PB) - equals the sum total of all information collected since the dawn of civilization until 2004. The Internet carries 1,826 PB of data every day. Facebook currently collects 0.5 PB of data every day. Just to put a PB in perspective, if a piece of paper was made from one byte, a petabyte stack would reach from here to the sun.

Big Data is a hot topic and getting a lot of media and business attention for all the right reasons. The mobile Internet, Internet communication, cloud computing, and social media are all driving forces in the explosive growth of Big Data. Organizations need people, processes and systems to help them turn raw data into useful information and informed action.

The coming years will decide how these vast zettabytes of data created everyday will be used to reduce costs and optimize operations for all kinds of organizations. This panel will explore the continued evolution of big data and the explosive opportunities contained in this field.

OCTANe's Technology Investor Forum (TIF) is the evolution of VC in the OC and is the largest investment, high growth, and innovation conference in Southern California.
