Smith is a firm believer that the first and foremost goal for any attorney is to provide excellent legal services to clients. Smith also understands the time constraints and pressure that clients are constantly under. So, he always cuts to the chase and provides clear explanations in plain English without resorting to unnecessary legalese and jargon.
With respect to his practice, Smith has an extensive history of working with multinational corporations (MNC), famous celebrities, midsize companies, small businesses, and startups in the areas of:
- Software (incl. smartphone applications)

Smith has considerable experience in the field of patent prosecution. He has previously managed patent portfolios (domestic and international) for multiple clients (including a Japanese MNC) and has participated in post-grant proceedings including one particular ex parte reexamination that resulted in all challenged claims of a main patent in a district court lawsuit against the client being canceled, thereby saving the client from possibly having to pay $50-100 million in damages.
Smith also has extensive experience as a litigator. He has been involved in cases at the district and appellate court level. Smith believes that an aggressive approach to litigation is the key to obtaining a favorable court decision and often proposes strategies for attacking the opposing party from every possible angle, while keeping the costs at a minimum for the client.
Prior to his legal career, Smith worked as a project manager at the Center for Advance Technology in Telecommunications (CATT), where he performed research in wireless technology.
