Knobbe Martens’ Adeel Akhtar Named to Lawyers of Color’s “Power List 2014”

| Adeel Akhtar

Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear LLP, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the United States, is pleased to announce that Adeel Akhtar, managing partner of its San Francisco office, has been selected for inclusion on Lawyers of Color’s (LOC) “Power List 2014.” The “Power List” is a comprehensive catalog of the nation’s most influential minority attorneys who have risen to the top of their chosen field or area of practice.

Akhtar has a long list of influential clients, both domestic and international, including among many others Analog Devices and ASM International. Akhtar has extensive experience in intellectual property protection for high technology industries such as software, data processing and electronic devices. His particular expertise is in the semiconductor field, but he also represents a number of clients in other technologies ranging broadly from drug delivery platforms and water purification, seismic reinforcement for the construction industry, food preparation and a variety of other fields. For example, Akhtar drafted and prosecuted several significant patents for Oakley, Inc. which have withstood the test of litigation against Nike, Inc. and a number of other major players in the sunglass manufacturing business.

In addition to his heavy caseload, Akhtar has served as the firm’s recruiting representative at his alma mater, Harvard Law School. Akhtar attended Harvard Law from 1991 to 1994 after moving to the U.S. from Nova Scotia, Canada, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Dalhousie University, cum laude.

“Power List” honorees are chosen as a result of a multi-level process executed by the LOC selection committee, comprised of LOC staff and professional advisors. Through in-depth research, the selection committee identifies promising contacts by reviewing bar publications, nominations and noteworthy accomplishments, including legal pipeline initiatives.

Established in 2008, Lawyers of Color Inc. (LOC Inc.) is the parent company of On Being A Lawyer of Color, which reports news of interest to minority legal professionals. LOC Inc. has grown to become a media and research company focusing on lawyers of color, while also producing e-newsletters, events and social media platforms to engage legal professionals. LOC Inc. aims to promote the causes and contributions of minority attorneys across the country.
